How Card Designs Dominate the entire Design

Card interfaces are a trend that is catching on. They are definitely visually attractive and practical too. They provide your user interface a simplistic yet elegant look. Mobile internet usage exceeds desktop internet usage and this is exactly why responsive designs are a mandate. Since the basic requirement today is that the website should render well on all screen sizes, simplistic designs, minimalism, flat designs and especially card designs have become more and more popular.

Graphic design concept

The card patterns for layouts are very useful. This is mainly because they enable faster loading times and can be easily translated across various screen sizes. The block of content that is presented to customers especially on mobile devices easily matches the attention span of the visitors.

Most of the popular social media sites like Facebook, Pinterest and Twitter use card style layout. Today card style layouts are seen in all types of websites.

Container Style Design

Cards are basically containers. Each container has its own block of content. A container can hold various types of content text, images, links, videos etc. The entire screen is filled with such containers and this type of layout is hence called as the container layout. The interface looks cleaner and is instantly comprehensible. It fosters quick browsing and the user can scan through the page and quickly locate what they are looking for.

Responsive

As mentioned earlier, this card style layout is perfect for responsive designs and is compatible with most of the responsive frameworks. As the frameworks expand and contract, the card grids can restructure themselves to fit the assigned break points or screen sizes. You can also assign a fixed width and a variable height and maintain a consistent spacing between the cards. Cards also effortlessly accommodate gesture control. If you are using a mobile screen, all you need to do is to tap the card to view the content.

Cards are the future of web design

In the future, cards may not act as mere links to content. There’s a lot more that they can do. For example, many designers have tried including interactive, animated GIF cards that give a unique experience to the visitors. Cards could also be ‘live’ cards that hold the most updated information and have the capacity to automatically update the information – for example weather forecast. Also, the bigger the card size, the better because it can effectively display all the data it is meant to. If the card is big enough, creative typography can also be used. The bigger the size of the cards, the greater the opportunity for designers to create delightful layouts and designs. They provide greater freedom and greater space to work with.

Most recently, the card style layout has been adopted in the wearable UI designs. Wearable devices require that the space be utilized judiciously, and cards provide enough functionality or the same.

Across all devices, cards are becoming a popular design that provide clear, neat and delightful user interfaces to enhance user experience!
